Movie Review: 'Centurion' is a Roman Bloodbath of a Film
Two weeks earlier, Dias was stationed at a Roman Outpost that was overrun by Picts. This one will bore you, makes you frustrated and finally makes you bored again. Impeccable and evocative cinematography by Sam McCurdy. Im not even going to bother trying to describe why the plot. Gather basic facts about the movie. But in northern Britain, the relentless onslaught of conquest has ground to a halt in face of the guerrilla tactics of an elusive enemy: the savage and terrifying Picts they were generally thought to not have worn any clothes.

Rating : Good, it's a nice historical extravaganza well set in ancient Rome , done in great scale and praised for its action sequences. What was Marshall thinking of? Beyond those basic facts, Centurion prefers to fill in the blanks with an odd mix of anachronistic hackneyed dialogue and graphic violence. In fact the battle that takes place in this movie is a near depiction of what the Germans did to the Romans when they destroyed 3 Roman legions while walking through the Black Forest. I eagerly wait to see what he does as the young Magneto in the upcoming X-Men prequel. I am a fugitive of Rome, and this is neither the beginning, nor the end of my story. The guy running around in the snow in the beginning was clearly wearing something that looked like Dockers pants, I am pretty sure they did not have those around in the second century.

The Romans had no choice but to march nearly single file through a road, when they realized they were flanked on both sides the line was 14 miles long, thus the battle took place over a 14 mile stretch the Romans had no choice but to form up as best they could in the road. One thing that could have helped to minimize the amount of destruction was to have a plan in place, or a plan within the emergency responder units to have a sufficient way to keep command and accountability. If his name weren't attached, I wouldn't have bothered. Second, a scene happens early in the film where a man is bite by a bug tick? However, a messenger dispatched by the fort's commander has reached , the Roman governor of , who wants to obtain favour with the , hoping to secure a transfer back to the comforts of Rome. Fourth, it might be a minor bug but it sure is one for me! It did not and does not make sense to me at all. Macros returns to help him and a traitorous Thax him to prevent him from standing, allowing Thax to escape while the wolves attack and devour Macros.
The number one rule is: don't make a time piece if you don't have the budget for one. Quintus' bunch of survivors are portrayed by a group of effective actors but the movie's short length prevents much characterization. Fassbender is forced into a role that requires him to step up and become a leader to this small band of men. I had been looking forward to seeing for quite some time now. I besides enjoy films about war.
These shortcomings in the script are what bring Centurion down. In the end, we do our best with what we've got. So it's to be expected that through the almost constant barrage of compromise, a few factual mistakes may slip through the net. It had a surprisingly good story and was not just a blood and guts war fest. Hadrian's Wall wasn't there then, or even being built. Anna realized that only she can save Kate with the organs she need to survive and her desire to live without extraordinary burden.
The word decimate which features strongly in the blurbs for this movie is, as usual, used wrongly normally I would ignore it but not in this context. Was the review written be Niel Marshall himself?? Tacitus writes that Quintus and his work forces escaped though which is what this film is based upon. Roman Centurion Quintus Dias escapes from brutal Pict barbarians after they overrun his remote northern outpost. If you like films with plenty of violence, then sit back, and enjoy the ride of 'Centurion'. Another illustration would be when they try and save the General.
Fassbender is good as always. I hoped that if the screen play would have been as strong as the cinematography of the movie is. The Romans were stretched out in a long column for miles, surrounded on both sides. Fans will find this an enjoyable action adventure, but it doesn't offer anything much nor new to win over new fans. The story itself was mildly interesting. Its a pure mess and the title is deceiving.
